Website Launch Makes Mother Teresa Celebrations Global

KOLKOTA – The launch of a new state of the art design website dedicated to Mother Teresa International Film Festival (MTIFF) shortly will make celebrations marking her birth centenary go global.
“This site is provided for you to follow all the happenings, the news and views that surround the film festival, keep you informed of the latest additions to the festival and generally act as a facilitator for communication to and from the public and the Festival organizers,” says website creator Mr Farrell Shah of iCom Kolkata.
“Mother Teresa the ‘angel of mercy’ and ‘flame in the slum’ captivated the world in her blue-bordered white sari and her dogged zeal. She deserves this feature and documentary film festival through which we hope she will bring hope to a new generation as well as continue to inspire millions who already consider her a saint,” says festival director and archdiocesan spokesperson Mr. Sunil Lucas who is also president of Signis Bengal.
“No Saint nor Blessed in the Catholic Church’s history had an International Festival of Films dedicated to her,” says Salesian Father C. M. Paul, who was Coordinator of the first mtiff.

The site offers exhaustive information on films, filmmakers, screening venues and show timings, festival passes and press conference and meet the director/producer schedules as well as festival office information and contact numbers. The site also features press kits and festival archives.
One of the noteworthy features of the site is on-line free ticketing for all 51 shows to be held in 3 halls on all 4 days of the festival. Some, 50,000 people will be able to enjoy 15 films from 7 countries, half of which will make their debut in India. Another site feature is 3 channel FestTV offering on-line video streaming of the actual fest from the venues, as well as trailers and teasers of 15 MTIFF films, and on-demand videos from MTIFF archives.
The festival slated for 26-29 August, 2010 is Kolkata’s homage to Blessed Mother Teresa, and was first held in 2003, on the occasion of the beatification. The second MTIFF was held at Berhampore (Murshidabad) on the occasion of installation of Mother Teresa statue in front of District Magistrate’s office, 2007. Expected Screenings:
Some of the films expected to be screened are biographies of Mother Teresa’s life like Mother Teresa and Her World (1979) by Shigeki Chiba, and Dominique Lapierre’s feature film, Mother Teresa – In The Name of God’s Poor (1997); and 3-hour Mother Teresa starring Olivia Hussey (2003)
