Saturday & Sunday Nandan 1 Shows Shifted to Don Bosco Calcutta

Park Street Metro NOT re-named as Mother Teresa

KOLKATA (C.M. Paul) — Nandan 1 (1000 seat hall) is not available on Saturday and Sunday (28 and 29 August) for MTIFF2010 screenings as per handwritten order given by Nandan CEO Mr Nilanjan Chatterjee on the evening of the inauguration day, 26 August. The MTIFF organizers made last minute arrangement to hold the Nandan 1 screenings at Don Bosco School Park Circus Auditorium on both the days honoring the shows and the show timings and Mother Teresa fans. However, MTIFF2010 four day festival continues on all other three Nandan Halls 2, 3, & 4. In all four venues the shows start at 1 pm.
On Sunday, though Nandan 1 will not be available for the concluding ceremony, the Nandan CEO has permitted a 12-noon special screening and premier show of the first ever film (documentary) produced on Mother Teresa by BBC and anchored by eminent British Journalist of 1960s Malcolm Muggeridge. The 55 minute film shot in Eastman colour for BBC Television in 1969 is entitled: Something Beautiful for God. (The book by the same title by Muggeridge was first published in 1971).
The MTIFF2010 concluding ceremony venue is also shifted from Nandan 1 to a far smaller hall Nandan 2.
Some Mother Teresa Centenary Tall Claims
It was not only Nandan CEO that went back on his tall claims to honour Mother Teresa, but there are several other government agencies that has done the same. Read on:
1)      Park Street Metro Station has not been re-named as Mother Teresa station. However, the main gates to Park Street Metro station platform has a picture and some writings of Mother Teresa installed for the occasion. The pillars on the platform have blue wavy stripes, similar to the Mother Teresa sari border.
2)      MTIFF2010 has not gone on Metro Rail’s 23 station network, even though films have been submitted to Metro Rail authorities.
3)      Mother Express flagged off by Rail Minister Mamata Banerjee on 26 August afternoon and expected to reach some 80 destinations around the country is still lying in Sealdah station. Newspaper advertisement today (28 August) by Eastern Railways invites the public to visit Mother Express in Sealdah station 28-29 August, 10 am to 8 pm absolutely free. As claimed earlier the train has no fourth coach dedicated for the screening of MTIFF2010 films. MTIFF director has submitted the films to Eastern railway officials.
4)      LOOK OUT FOR MORE tall claims

“Photography strictly prohibited” is the sign that we see boldly displayed in front of the Mother Teresa Homage at Park Street Metro Station. Even after identifying myself to the Station Master, I was not allowed to take a photo of the MT Homage. This is the height of the insensitive bureaucracy and archaic, irrational and nonsensical rules…
