Don Bosco IMAGE Launches Saturday Movie Club at Kochi

KOCHI (C.M. Paul) – A recently inaugurated visual communications centre is launching a movie club in the span of less than a month, 11 September. Don Bosco IMAGE (Institute of Media, Graphic Arts and Effects) started on 16 August, last month, has courses in film making and graphic design.
“The Don Bosco IMAGE Saturday Movie Club (SMC) is a venue for friendly, social and responsive relationship for film lovers,” says IMAGE director Fr Jiji Kalvanal.
He adds, “We hope to encourage and promote the study of Cinema through serious viewing of movies and discussions, as well as nurture the creative and technical skill of the members.”
Though a young film director, Fr Jiji who bagged national and international awards for his four short films thus far, explains, “the club will gather on every Saturday at 6.30 pm for preview and discussions. The show will commence with an introduction to the movie and will conclude with cine forum.”
The annual SMC membership is open only to 65 people above 18 years of age for a fee of INR 750 each. Those who sought membership include, doctors, navy captains, media people, young religious men and women, builders, business men and youth from IT and media world.
Three premier shows are scheduled to buy time to organize and to get to know the club members before the official inauguration of SMC in October with the movie classic “Bicycle Thieves”.
“This is an added boon to film lovers in Kerala to be exposed to quality world class cinemas,” says Salesian Fr Joseph Pulinthanath an international award winning feature film director from Agartala.
Fr Pulinthanath is of the opinion that the Thiruvananthapuram International Film Festival has far more hard core cine fans than Kolkata or Goa International Film festivals.
The first premier movie at DB IMAGE Inglourious Basterds (2009) is World War II film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Brad PittMélanie Laurent, Christoph WaltzEli Roth and  Diane Kruger. The film tells the fictional story of two plots to assassinate the Nazi Germany’s political leadership, one planned by a young French Jewish cinema proprietor (Laurent), and the other by a team of Jewish Allied soldiers led by First Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Pitt).
Don Bosco IMAGE, the newly started media and animation institute of the Salesians of Don Bosco, has an unmatched ultra modern HD (High Definition) Theatre with full HD Projection and Audio System.
The fully air conditioned theatre has 71 gallery-style executive seat capacity.  Well designed and LED-lit, it has the standard of multiplex theatres in metro cities. Situated on the NH Bypass at Vennala, the centre is easily accessible and has an extensive parking area.
This theatre is the first of its kind in Ernakulam, and may also be hired for conferences, product launch events, workshops, training programme, company presentations, film & audio visual previews.
