KOLKATA, (C.M. Paul) – “I am lucky to host Don Bosco in my parish,” says priest alumnus Fr Orson Wells parish priest of Christ the King Church Park Circus. It is the only diocesan parish in Kolkata city where Don Bosco relic will stop for veneration.
“We have two Salesian institutions [Auxilium Convent and Don Bosco School] in the parish and Don Bosco is visiting only one of them. I have the privilege of having him at our church for almost 3 hours,” says Fr Orson former student of Don Bosco Schools Liluah and Bandel.
Don Bosco relic scheduled to visit the parish on Sunday, 17 July, from 6 am to 9 am will be preceded by a triduum of spiritual preparations coordinated by the Salesian Cooperators in the parish. The parish has combined the dawn mass and morning mass for the solemn Eucharistic celebration at 7.00 am.
“To accommodate the crowd, we are putting up giant screen in the parish hall,” says Fr Orson preoccupied with accommodating local Muslim friends who want to pay homage to Don Bosco.
The lone Italian Salesian in Kolkata city, 86 year old Fr Stroscio Rosario will preside at the Eucharist. Fr Rosario was Orson’s first Don Bosco Rector at Liluah School & Boarding where he joined class 2, 50 years ago. After the Eucharist, DB relic will be taken in solemn procession with parishioners escorted by motorcade with out riders by Kolkata Alumni to Don Bosco School Park Circus for day long events, including the Salesian Family Day and a public function.
“Everything connected to the Relic visit to the parish has been falling into place just like a miracle,” says Fr Orson recalling the initial hitches when he almost gave up hope as two appointments to meet with the Salesian provincial of Kolkata fell through for unavoidable reasons. But when archbishop of Kolkata circulated the official Relic visit list Fr Orson was amazed to see his parish listed.
He has also scheduled (10 July) the screening of a 30 minute Don Bosco film (starring Ben Gazara as Don Bosco) in English and Bengali.
