KOLKATA, (C.M. Paul) — The Deputy Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata His Excellency Igor V. Karavaev driving his car drew up at the Missionaries of Charity run Shishu Bhavan on Lower Circular Road, this afternoon, Friday, 11 May. The unannounced surprise visit to the Children’s Home was to deliver a car full of toys for children, including a baby cot, pram.
“It is my pleasure to do something beautiful for the children,” the Consul said unloading the gifts and handing over to Missionaries of Charity helpers.
He also took time to assemble the baby cot and give the Sisters and helpers a demo to use it.
The Consul who fell in love with Kolkata city and its people loves driving around the city. During the current tenure in the city, he has stayed more than five years.
“I will miss this city,” confesses the unassuming and friendly Consul who is scheduled to leave the city shortly for his next assignment in Moscow.
Last year, the Consul had personally supervised the Russian People’s gift of a sculpture of Mother Teresa sitting and playing with children. The statue which remained for several months in Shishu Bhavan Kolkata courtyard found its final home when it was installed in front of the National Library, Kolkata.
