GUWAHATI, (C.M. Paul) – The Assam Don Bosco University, is starting this year, a two-year modular Post Graduate Programme in Psychological Counselling leading to MA degree (M.Sc. in Psychological Counselling).
“The new programme aims at training counsellors who are theoretically sound, culturally sensitive and skilled enough to offer psychological assistance and support to individuals and groups that are in need of such help,” says Vice Chancellor of the DB University Dr Stephen Mavely.
Dr Mavely hopes, “with an optimum blend of theory, practice and research the course will prepare qualified counsellors in the areas of children, youth and education, marriage and family, and trauma and addiction.”
He adds, the newly designed course is a boon to Educational institutions, voluntary sector, non-governmental organisations and government departments, particularly those dealing with health, education, vocational training, family, women, children and youth, correctional settings, community development, disaster management, communal harmony and promotion of culture, conflict management and other such areas will also benefit from the services of professionally trained counsellors.
DBU has structured this Post Graduate programme in a modular manner, with the first semester serving as a foundation course, the next semester catering to specialisations in certain areas and the remaining two semesters devoted to supervised internship, case studies and research work. One may obtain a Certificate after the first semester, a Post Graduate Diploma after the second, an Advanced Post Graduate Diploma after the third and a Master’s Degree after the fourth.
