KOLKATA, (Shweta Keshri) — A rainy day and a muddy ground could not play spoilsport as Don Bosco, Nadia, and Hirapur MCT Institute, Burnpur, fought it out in the final of the All Bengal Dabur Red Paste presents TTIS Shootout Inter School 5-a-Side Football Tournament, 2012, at the Bidhannagar Municipal Sports Complex on September 13.
Don Bosco emerged as the champion, beating Hirapur MCT Institute 5-0. “TTIS Shootout gave us a chance to play in Calcutta. And getting the trophy from Shabbir Sir (Shabbir Ali) was the icing on the cake,” said Santu Poddar, the captain of the winning team.
Pradeep Das, 15, of Don Bosco was the highest scorer and adjudged the man of the tournament. “I am very happy to get the awards. We practise regularly at Krishnanagar Central Club and that has paid off. I scored four goals in the last three matches, one of them in the final,” said Pradeep, a Class X student.
Shabbir Ali, the technical director of the Indian football team, was impressed with the effort.
“It is important to hold such tournaments at the school-level. We need to catch them young. This is the right way of doing it,” he said.
The tournament saw 284 schools from across West Bengal, 64 of them from Calcutta, take part.
“A lot more schools participated in the tournament this time. Football is a physical game that needs fitness and health and our brand is also associated with dental care. It is encouraging to see so many schools participating in such a event,” said Hironmoy Sen, general manager, eastern India, of Dabur.
