KRISHNAGAR, (C.M. Paul) – The diocese of Krishnagar held its annual youth fest on the Hindu holiday Mahalaya, 15th October at Krishnagar Cathedral Church and hall. It was a welcome scene to see Bishop Joseph Gomes SDB and Vicar General and parish priest of the cathedral Fr Bertie Fernandes SDB standing along with other priests welcoming youth groups from 20 parishes of Krishnagar diocese spread out in Nadia and Murshidabad districts.
After breakfast and welcome words by diocesan youth director Fr Aungshu and diocesan youth executives, Bishop Gomes inaugurated the day’s events by hoisting youth fest flag, and a message by Fr Fernandes.
The youth processed into the cathedral for the grand Eucharistic celebration with 15 priests along with youth, and their animators including Brothers and Sisters.
After the Eucharist, the young people milled into the huge cathedral hall – an air plane hangar from USA gifted by a benefactor of former bishop of Krishnagar Bishop L.R. Morrow SDB some 50 years ago.
After warm up sessions with songs and yells, the youth group settled down for the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, installation of the Holy Bible and opening of the Year of Faith. The theme song in Bengali language composed and rendered by Fr Peter Mullick had the youth rack the hall….
Young Christian Students, West Bengal youth coordinator Fr Robin Gomes SDB, a former Krishnagar diocesan youth director, was back to his favourite Krishnagar Cathedral hall… this time he took the stage and rocked… over 600 young people joined him in singing and enjoying the catechesis on the Year of Faith…

The diocesan youth director of Baruipur diocese Fr Indirajit Sardar came with all the eight diocesan executive members, and a group of young people from the neighbouring diocese.
