Social work students engage in social analysis with new book launch

Guwahati — An assistant professor in northeast India has published his second book within less than three months of joining the university Department of Social work.

The Vice Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University Dr Stephen Mavely released Dr Jacob Lukose new book entitled “Social Analysis” at the inauguration of two day workshop for some 50 Master of Social Work students at Azara campus.

“This is not a book by an armchair philosopher,” said Dr Mavely highlighting the author’s over 30 years of filed experience.
Dr Lukose who joined ADBU in May published his first book last September entitled: “Inclusive Development : A Human Rights approach.”

In the present volume, ‘Social Analysis: a Guide for Social Workers’, Dr PJ Lukose brings to bear his vast experience in the field and in academics to make social analysis and its methods understandable to common people and to the students of social work.

The focus of the book the author says, “is on the need for a structural analysis of society to identify the underlying structural causes for the poverty and marginalization which dog about 50% of our people.”

The book analyses at great depth the mechanisms operating in our society and the world at large.

The book further provides the right tools to uncover the various structures of domination and exploitation embedded in society; and prods the reader to contribute to the building of a more just society where love, truth, freedom, justice and equality play a much greater part than today.

Educators, lawmakers, administrators, developers and others interested in resolving social problems, and social activists, social work Institutions and NGOs and government organizations devoted to promoting development, will find in this volume an invaluable tool.

Dr Lukose has over 30 years of field experience heading the Departments of Programme Support Services, Human & Institutional Development Services, Thematic, Quality Management and Capacity Building at Caritas India New Delhi.
